Avaya IPOSE & Application Server Deployment in Hyper-V



Offiical Avaya Guide Link

Downloaded the file from Avaya Site (ensure it is the Hyper-V file).
Extract the zip

Copy the file to another location (default below)

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Virtual Hard Disks

Rename the file


The file used when creating a new virtual machine becomes the hard disk of that virtual machine. It cannot then be used to create another new virtual machine. Therefore, it is important to use a copy of the downloaded file, especially if you are planning to create several virtual machines.

Open Hyper-V Manager on the PC

Note: Hyper-V might not be installed on the PC, you will need to install Hyper V and run the services to allow access to Hyper-V Management.


In Hyper-V

Select Virtual Switch Manager.

Confirm there is a New Virtual Switch External and that it has the External Network set as your LAN adaptor on the PC.

If there isn’t one, then create one and set the settings as per the below (select your own network adaptor as the External Network .

Open Hyper-V on the PC

Select Actions, New, Virtual Machine.

Enter a Name.

Select Next.


Select the Generation for the virtual machine.

Select Next.

    • IP Office R12.1 and higher: Select generation 2.

    • IP Office R12.0 and earlier: Select generation 1.

    Set the Startup Memory as required. (note Use Dynamic Memory is selected, its best to set the Startup memory and untick this)

    Select Next.


    Select the Connection: New Virtual Switch External.

    Select Next.








    Select to use an existing virtual hard disk.

    Browse to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Virtual Hard Disks.

    Select the Avaya Hyper-V file.

    Select Next.


    Check the Summary and select Finish.

  • Do not start the virtual machine at this stage.
  • Right-click on the new virtual machine and select Settings.
  • Select Security. Check that Enable Secure Boot is not selected. Click OK.




  • The virtual machine will be visible, and the current state will be off.


    You can right click and select settings to adjust memory, network adaptors, add additional hard drive if required.

    If using Media Manager for call recording, you will need to add an additional drive

    Select IDE Controller 0 and select Add

    Select Next.

    Select VHDX.

    Select Next.

    Select Fixed Size.

    Select Next.

    Enter a name for the additional drive and select a location to store it.

    Select Next.

    Select Create a new blank virtual hard disk and set the size

    Select Next.

    Review and select Finish.

    When ready, right click on the virtual machine and select start.


    Right click on the virtual machine and select connect.

    You will see the current IP address assigned to the virtual machine.

























    If you need to change the IP address


    Enter the command: login

    Enter the Username: root

    Enter the Password: Administrator


    Enter the command (note the space after nano)

    nano /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0


    You will see the current BOOTPROTO mode is dhcp.

    Changed the BootP from dhcp to static

    Add the IPADDR and NETMASK line and information.



    Select Ctrl+X

    Enter Y to confirm changes to be saved.

    Select Enter to save the file.


    Enter command     to restart the Avaya Server    

    sudo reboot









    Once restarted, the new IP address should show.

    Once the correct IP address is showing


    Carry out a ping test from your PC to the IP address to confirm access.

    If the ping test fails


    In Hyper-V

    Select Virtual Switch Manager.

    Check the New Virtual Switch External has the External Network set as your LAN adaptor on the PC.

    Test the ping again to confirm access.







    In Hyper-V

    Right click on the virtual instance and select Settings.

    Select Automatic Start Action Always Start.

    Select Always Start the Virtual Machine Automatically.

    Save the settings.

    On the PC, access the Power options and confirm the setting Put the Computer to Sleep is set to Never.

    Select Change Advanced Power Settings and confirm the Turn Off Hard Disk After is set to 0 Minutes.

    Access the Advanced Power Settings and confirm the hard drive.


    Access Windows Service, check and confirm the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management status is Running and the Startup Type is Automatic.

    Once confirmed, browse to the Avaya Server IP address port 7071 to complete the ignition setup.

    Example: https://192.168.86.231:7071

    If using an additional hard drive for Media Manager and you need to increase the size of the additional drive.

    Access the Application Server via 7071 and Shutdown the Server.


    Once powered off (Stopped)

    In Hyper V, right click and select Settings on the Application Server.

    Select the additional hard drive and select Edit.


    Select Expand, Select Next.

    Set the new size. Select Next.

    Select Finish

    Power on the Application Server in Hyper V.


    Once powered on, access the Application Server via 7071.

    Select Settings, System tab

    Scroll down and confirm the size of the additional hard drive has increased.
