This is an article to set up a NEC BX500 to accept ST500 Apps to a NEC SL2100 / SV9100. The BX500 is placed on the same LAN segment such as:
-NAT translation
-Allowing only SIP packets with Message Header advertising “User-agents” to be “NEC-ST500-*****” , all other SIP packets will be dropped by the BX500. So other 3rd party SIP devices can not register eg SIPVICIOUS attacks.
-Allow for more appropriate CODEC’s to be advertised to the ST500 APP, & the BX500 will translate it to G.711 internally.
Pre Requisite Set up ST500 App… KB article:
“How to program a ST500 APP to a SL2100 / SV9100”
There are 3 ways to set the IP address of the BX500, Command line via serial cable , Web interface & upload a .INI file, Software required to edit the .INI file ( iniedit.exe )
Default IP address of the BX500 is 192.168.0.2, default Username / Password is Admin/Admin
Default Procedure , with the BX500 powered on ( wait at least 4 minutes after powering on ), using a paper clip press the default button for 10 seconds.
Load your License for your BX500 , in my example the BX has 15 sessions & 50 end points capacity. Take note of these 2 numbers as they are required to be entered into the configuration of the BX.
Open iniedit:
File – Open ( open your template – ST500 profile , link at the bottom of this article )
Iniedit has 2 vertical tabs “View & Edit”
Click on the EDIT tab
Search ”InterfaceTable”
Change 10.1.100.222, 24, 10.1.100.254
Check the settings are correct by clicking on the View tab & search for “InterfaceTable”
After logging into the BX500 goto “Actions” , Configuration File.
Choose the .ini file
Now you have successfully got the SBC on the local area network, we need to advertise the external IP address in the SIP Messages out to the ST500 Apps.
Update the Public IP to match your site.
Set the port numbers, In the example bellow 84-20-01 “Registrar Port” set to 7777 from its default of 5070,So the BX500 will send SIP packets to UDP port 7777 to the system & the ST500 app will use 58299 to connect to the BX500 SBC, take note the ST500 also uses the connection type of TCP for a more reliable SIP signalling.
Edit the 2 lines bellow to match your site.
Edit your Media Realm to match the “channels” you license supports, in this example the BX has 15 session licenses, so set the “MEDIA SESSIONS” to 15 , given the default ports are 6000 & 7000 it calculates the “range end” to 6149 & 7149 giving each session 10 ports each , the 7000 range in this config are the “external RTP UDP ports” that need to be forwarded to the 84-26-01 IP address on your router.
Edit where the SIP packets are being re-directed to.
Edit the Source username , again to further protect from hacks, in this example the extension numbers of the ST500 Apps are 1xx
