Avaya 9600 Series (H323) Upgrade Firmware



Access System Status, select Extensions and double click on a 9600 H323 extension

Confirm the current Firmware Version of the extension



Access IPO security settings

Select Services, HTTP

Set the Service Security Level to Unsecure + Secure

Select OK

Select File, Save Security Settings




Download the 9600 Series Firmware

This can be found the Avaya Support site

Extract the zip file once downloaded


Access IPO Embedded File Management

(Manager, select File, Advanced, Embedded File Management and login to the IPO)


Browse to the Primary folder 

Example below on both an IPOSE and IP500v2























Select File, Upload File

Browse to the unzipped folder and select all files and select Open





If prompted, select Yes to All to replace all existing files with new files




The files will be uploaded to the Primary folder

When all files have been uploaded select Close




Check the Primary folder for the files to confirm they are in there


Browse to the 96x1Hupgrade.txt via your browser

Example: https://54.79.151.247/96x1Hupgrade.txt


Check in the file and confirm it lists the new firmware for the relevant model handset

When the phone is restarted it will contact the IPO and read this text file


Example below shows the firmware for the 9608 to download is 6_8_5_5_1



Open Monitor application and connect to the IPO

Select Filters, Trace OptionsSelect Clear All.

Enable the below (you can right click and set a colour on different filters)





In System Status, select the H323 Extension and select Restart



In IPO Monitor 


You will see the 9600 H323 phone request the 96x1Hupgrade.txt file via HTTP



You will see the IP address of the phone start to upgrade via HTTP




9600 H323 phones that are connected to a local IPO system will upgrade quickly, however remote handsets (such as ones registered to hosted IPO instances will take longer, expect the upgrade to take 30 minutes or more)


Once the upgrade is complete, the phone will register to the IPO and will be visible again in System Status


Select the extension and confirm the firmware has upgraded
